Understanding How Menopause Symptoms Will Affect Your Life

Women might complain about having monthly menstrual cycle but those same women most likely actively fear the idea of going through menopause. Menopause is a difficult and trying time for most women. In a lot of ways it can be akin to going through another puberty but, this time, the woman knows exactly what is happening to her and how her menopause symptoms are affecting her loved ones’ lives. You need to understand the different symptoms of menopause so that you can be a good support system for the women in your life who have to go through "the change". The following are symptoms that you should look out for if you or one of the women in your life (girlfriend, wife, mother, sister, daughter) is close to the age where menopause usually starts.

Men are often traumatized by their female counterparts sudden lack of desire for physical contact, this in itself can cause relationship issues. Now men: just because your wife or girlfriend is suddenly "not in the mood" does not mean that she is automatically menopausal. Could it be menopause if your partner constantly tells you they are not in the mood? Try to understand what she’s going through. Menopause is just as miserable for her as you think it is for you. As it turns out our bodies are in constant change and we really start to notice as we grow up, we start to use reading glasses to enjoy a book and pills to get through each day.

For a woman wanting to have another child, menopause can be quite traumatic because of the similarity in symptoms between pregnancy and menopause. If you experience extreme fatigue you could be pregnant or premenopausal. The feeling of not being able to get enough rest during menopause is often designated as "crashing" fatigue. I am not talking about just feeling a little tired after a long day at work, i’m talking about major fatigue. This is the kind of fatigue that might prevent her from being able to get out of bed at all. Multiple breaks for power naps might become necessary just to make it through the day. If you witness a woman in your life experiencing severe fatigue symptoms, talk to her about seeing her OB/GYN to determine if menopause is the cause.

A heightened sense of anxiety is fairly common in women who are going through menopause. Anxiety can make a premenopausal woman feel as though the world will never be the same. Do not mistake these sensations as panic attacks, there is a difference. If there does not seem to be a reason your loved one is experiencing these symptoms or they happen suddenly it is likely she is experiencing menopause. Try to offer your support and understanding during this difficult time, she’ll need it. Most just want to cover their eyes with some reading sunglasses.

Some people compare menopause to puberty. Both are important and major changes that the woman cannot control. Many women, however, report that menopause is worse than puberty because the symptoms are more varied and severe.

Learning how to pinpoint menopause symptoms will allow you to have a better understanding of what is going on in your own body and as you work through your life’s changes. If you are a man, learning about these symptoms will help you have more sympathy for the women in your life who are going through it.
