Have you ever wanted to start your own garden but weren’t sure how to go about it? How often have you purchased flowers and then thought "I should grow my own flowers!"? How often do you think "I bet if I grew my own fruits and veggies they would taste better and I’d save some money" when you are standing in the produce section at the grocery store? Have you ever thought about starting an herb garden to save money? How often do you look at your current living space and wonder where your garden should go? Here is some good news: gardens can be grown pretty much everywhere, even indoors. Here are a few tips to help you get started.

Improve the quality of your dirt or soil before you begin planting. Not every patch of dirt is identical. In fact, the dirt that is already in your yard is probably not the best for growing plants at all, which might be why you’ve had trouble growing a garden in the past. Different types of seeds have different nutrient needs.

Work the ground before you plant. Organic refuse is the best for preparing your dirt to get it ready for growing. A few months before you start planting spread compost (the best organic material for preparing soil), mulch or grass clippings (also good) over your potential garden. Your plants will benefit from the nutrients left behind by the compost that you have spread. To keep your eyes safe from harmful UV rays while outside, put on some stylish reading sunglasses.

Digging in the ground is a fantastic way to loosen up the soil that you will be planting in. Make sure gardening conditions are right or digging could be a bad idea.

Before you start to dig make sure the soil is moist. The easiest way to tell if your soil is moist is to try to form a ball with it with your hands–if the ball won’t form the soil isn’t moist enough. If the ground is too moist the ball will hold together when you drop it. To turn the soil and increase the air flow through it spading forks and spades are the best tools.

Start with something small. You might be dreaming of having your entire yard filled with blooming and blossoming plants. If you have never started a garden before, however, it is better to start with just a few plants. This way you don’t have to fret about putting forth a large effort for something that you might not like very much in the long run. Gardening takes time, commitment and patience. Would you agree to marry someone that you hadn’t ever had a first date with? Why set your whole yard aside for veggies if you’ve never even sprouted a lima bean? There are a growing number of people who wear clip on sunglasses that can help while working in the garden. Anybody can grow a garden. The trick to having a thriving garden is to take steps to ensure that you approach your new hobby the right way. You need to do some advance planning and plant research if you want your garden to flourish and thrive. Once you figure out how to keep your garden healthy and have figured out what kind of routine you want to follow for your work outside, doing your daily gardening chores will feel far more enjoyable. It could come to be that you like working in your garden every day!

Seems we aren’t the only ones who think Rudy Project’s Rock. Outside buyers guide named the Karboneye by Rudy one of their sunglass picks of the summer in 2009 and with new lens options it is even better now.

Here is what Outside had to say, “Wasn’t Doc wearing these at the end of Back to the Future? But seriously, testers raved about Rudy’s photochromic red tint, which pumps up contrast and depth and self-adjusts in sunlight and shadow. We also loved the way the snug, featherweight polymer shield just disappears—no edges or obstructions in view. Plus, there’s the watchlike build quality. (That and the carbon fiber at the temples help explain the price.) Try this one for road riding and mountain biking or anything else that involves going fast. A snap-in bit for corrective lenses lets prescription wearers enjoy the view, too. Rx-able”

And as for the folks at Rudy, we couldn’t have described these better ourself:

Rudy Project’s KarbonEye features a revolutionary stainless steel temple core bonded with carbonfiber nano foils and over-injected with protective ergonomic Megol. This unique piece is mounted with our new ImpactX Photochromic shield, delivering both wrap-around protection and light management. Loaded with innovative co-injected Ergonose 4, the Rudy Project KarbonEye is a high-end technical breakthrough for sport freaks and represents the culmination of more than 20 years of research, design and Italian craftmanship. The KarbonEye is rx-able with stainless steel over-injected proprietary optical insert.

Currently available in 5 frame/lens combos this shield is perfect for those looking for top of the line sports sunglasses.

A couple of months ago Rudy Project introduced their new Magster frame and after a bit of time on the market the verdict is in. This frame is hot. Many frame/lens combos are already out of stock and many more hard to find as well. So what’s to love?

The lenses are big, measuring in at 71mm these lenses are big even in the world of sports wrap sunglasses. You are sure to get all of the protection you need from these shades and more. The big lenses are available in numerous colors offering numerous benefits. Rudy’s lens technology is not to be questioned and they bring it to you in the Magter in form or mirrored laser options, impactx durability, photochromic and polarized offerings as well. They have also made this frame fully RX-able, available in both their Direct RX option and RX insert program.

rudy project

I wore yet another amazing pair of Rudy Projects today. The frame was the Maskeryna and I really loved it. It was so light weight and incredibly minimal I think it would be fantastic for just about everyone. With fully adjustable nosepads it should allow for a proper fit with most bridges. The rimless shield is ultra modern and aerodynamic.

The only concern I have with this style, vs something more substantial like a Rydon is it is so lightweight, so streamlined, that I have to question it’s durability. If you are a rough em, tough em kind of rider and don’t put your specs in the case post race I can’t imagine these shades will last too long.

However, if that’s not the case, this is a sporty frame that is also stylish in it’s own right. And with two color ways, tobacco and anthracite, there is one perfect for every kit.

Here’s what e-rudy has to say about the frame:

“The Rudy Project Maskeryna Collection is the look that turns heads. Super lightweight, maximum protection, outstanding comfort and a clean cutting edge design. The Maskeryna is what happens when performance meets attitude with a total disregard to conventional thinking. Grilamid TR 55 LX frame construction coupled with proprietary adjustable Silipad nose piece provides weightless comfort and maximum protection.”

When it comes to cycling safety, eyewear can be just as important as a helmet. They protect your eyes from debris and wind. Reduce tearing and improve vision. The proper pair of cycling sunglasses will enhance contrast, reduce glare, and of course protect your eyes. We have compiled a list of some of the top sunglasses for the serious cyclist.

Things to consider when purchasing a pair of sport sunglasses not only the tint, but the shape as well. If the sunglasses wrap too tight, they may fog up in warmer weather. Adequate air flow is required. If they are too large, they may fall and slip as you are riding. Streamlined temples are convenient and more comfortable for wear under a helmet. Brands like Rudy Project, Rec Specs and Wiley X all specialize in sport sunglasses suitable for cycling.
